The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued the notification for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2024 (UPSC CSE 2024). The UPSC CSE 2024 aims to fill around 1,056 vacancies, with 40 reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD).
Among these, 6 are for candidates with blindness and low vision, 12 for those who are deaf and hard of hearing.
It 9 for those with locomotor disabilities, including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy. Additionally, 13 vacancies are reserved for individuals with multiple disabilities.

The Civil Services Examination comprises two stages. Firstly, the Preliminary exam serves as a screening process, utilizing objective-type questions to shortlist candidates for the Main round.
The Main round, the second stage, encompasses a written examination and interviews, often referred to as personality tests. This comprehensive evaluation process aims to assess candidates thoroughly, testing their knowledge, skills, and suitability for civil services roles.
The Preliminary exam acts as a gateway, ensuring that only those meeting specific criteria progress to the more in-depth Main round, where their capabilities are further examined through written assessments and interviews.
To be eligible for the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service, you must hold Indian citizenship.
Candidates eligible for other services include Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, and Tibetan refugees settling in India before January 1, 1962.
Individuals of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries like Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam, intending to settle permanently in India.
- Age requirement: Applicants must be between 21 and 32 years old as of August 1, 2023.
- Birth date range: The candidate’s birth date should be between August 2, 1991, and August 1, 2002.
- Age relaxation: Reserve category candidates are eligible for age relaxation.
- Educational qualification: A graduate degree from a recognized university is mandatory.
